What do you do when you need traffic fast?
I must warn you, that these methods are not for the faint at heart. These should only be applied in short term bursts. Long term usage may produce side-effects including blogger burnout, writer fatigue and mental meltdowns.
Family members may notice increased isolation and irritability, especially while attempting to pull you away from the computer.
Blog promotion can increase stress and anxiety. Discontinue use, if you experience any of the following symptoms:
- Heart-palpitations
- Insomnia
- Brain-freeze
- Amnesia
- Confusion
- Migraines
You might think I'm exaggerating or being silly, but seriously, if you let blog promotion tasks get out of control, you could send yourself to the loony bin fast!
So blogger beware! Begin promotion with caution. The following tips, while effective, are not meant to be done everyday, all day. But in short-term spans when you get to the point when you really want to grow your blog and increase your traffic, especially if you've experienced a dip in traffic ranking or are trying to recover from an extended absense.
Here's what you can do:
Post more quality content
This one is going to hurt - I've already warned you, so no whining!
Not just any content, but unique, never posted before, brand-new as a baby's bottom, fresh and creative, content! This means, that it's time to crank up the writing production and increase your posting frequency. If you've been posting once a week, it's time to start posting twice a week. If you've already been posting once a day... you've got it - time for two posts a day. Sounds extreme, but it works.
Try it for a week or two, then lay off. Wait a few weeks and then hit the turbo-content boost button again.

Guest Post your Head Off
Literally, this one might make your head pop off from the insanity of trying to be everywhere at one time - you still need fresh content for your own blog after all.
But don't just guest post anywhere, search out blogs that have lots of reader engagement. You can spot that by a high number of comments, tweets or stumbles. Be sure to tailor your post so that it fits well with the blog your considering. Yes, that means even more research.

Are your ears bleeding, yet?
But wait, there's more...
Comment until your fingers fall off
Return to those same blogs with high reader engagement and do your best to be the first one to comment on new blog updates or as close to first as you can be.
Thankfully, there some blogs are choosing to post the latest comments first, so you might not have to always be first. Then, post your most authentic, and genuinely helpful comment you can think of - that means you'll have to actually read the post (ouch... I know... sorry!)
If you really want to take this approach to the next level, you can post reply comments to everyone else's comments, then visit each commentator's blog, and comment on the most recent post, then go back and leave comments on everyone else's comments, then visit each of their commentator's blogs, and then...
Warning: if you're not careful, you could fall into a bloghole (cousin of the blackhole) and be time warped into next week. If this happens you may wake up hungry, covered in your own waste and any pets you own may no longer be living.
Tweet, share, stumble and tweet again
Before you leave those same blogs that you've been visiting and commenting on, be sure to retweet the post, share it on FB, stumble it on Stumbleupon, Digg, Bookmark...
In other words, share them on as many social networking sites that you are currently active in. This practice gets the attention of those bloggers who blogs you've been commenting on and lets them know that you're there to help and makes them more likely to return the favor, increasing the possibility that you'll receive more traffic.
Is your head spinning yet?
Like, I said, use these methods with caution, set some time limits and avoid doing all of these at once for extended periods of time. Prolonged exposure can lead to eye-strain, lip-quivers, carpal tunnel syndrome, nervous breakdown...
Of course, there are other promotional methods that are not listed here, what can a blogger do when he or she needs traffic fast? What tips do have to share? Don't forget to read the warning label!
