You just thought the day of the A-list was dead. Nope. Not at ooVoo anyway. They're hosting something called My ooVoo Day featuring 20 or so "high profile bloggers, podcasters and media personalities to host live 6-way video chats with their fans," says their Facebook event page.
That's cool. Actually, I think what has soured me on this event was the over the top marketing verbiage on the Web site:
"My ooVoo Day is a week-long experiment in blogger to fan interaction. Rock star bloggers from across the 'sphere will host interactive conversations on hot topics, facilitated by the multi-person video chat technology from our friends at ooVoo."
"Blogger to fan," "rock star bloggers," "across the 'sphere"...dude! Pulease!
The hosts include bloggers representing different corners of the blogosphere, from business to entertainment to tech and so on. Names you'd likely recognize are: iJustine, Joseph Jaffe, Allan Cox, Chris Brogan, David Meerman Scott, Geoff Livingston and Steve Hall, among others.
Each one of these bloggers has earned a right to be here and I have nothing against them. In fact, I've immense respect for many on the list. Maybe it's just the rhetoric I object to. (Yea, that's probably it.) Regardless, I think I'll take a pass and let some other star-struck fan have my place.
The one thing I am stoked about is that the event is supporting the Frozen Pea Fund and blogger Susan Reynolds. She's also on the list of those included in the event and is a rock star, as are all cancer survivors in my book.
