The 2008 Russian Internet or Runet Awards were given away last week in a lavish ceremony held in Moscow. Russian singers and celebrities were among the audience as leading players in Russian internet industry were awarded for their contribution to the development of the Russian segment of the internet.
The awards have been running since 2004 and the project is paid for by the Federal Agency for Print and Mass Communication in Russia (FAPMC). A reflection of the support governmental agencies have for the development of the internet in Russia.
Rambler and Microsoft won awards for Technology and Innovation while Google.ru beat Yandex.ru by one place in the People's Top 10 category. The full results of this section are below and give some insight into the popular websites in Runet at the moment.
