Like many of our human impulses, creativity seems to come in bunches. Some days you are completely stuck thinking in the box, and some days you are running circles around that box without ever getting dizzy. It's a fickle, frustrating reality, but there are a few ways to go from the desert of dullness to the jungle of productivity. (Btw, I'm full of lame literary lingo and annoying alliteration, so if you ever need any extra, just ask.)
1. Go with the flow, or lack thereof. Whether your creative well is bone dry or flooded with ideas, don't fight it because it will only make you frustrated. Sure, there are tips and tricks to help control the flow to some extent, but for the most part your mind/body will tell you when it's ready to dump creative, and you just need to be able to keep the flood gate open or closed at the right times.
2. Look for creative inspiration anywhere and everywhere. The great thing about creativity is that there is no right or wrong, there is only right for me or wrong for me. If you allow yourself to let loose you inhibitions and blinders, you will start to see creative inspiration in everything around you.
3. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Creative doesn't have to mean personal. If you get stuck on a word or idea, just ask someone. Most of the time creative glitches just need a fresh perspective to be set back on track.
4. Believe in whatever you create. The difference between genius and crazy is in the perspective of the viewer. One way to help push that opinion in the right direction is to completely believe in everything you create. It's human nature to believe in what others do, so you are the best person to start that trend for yourself.
4.5. Don't feel the need to explain everything. So much of creative's appeal stems from it's difference or even disconnect from the norm. Leaving people wondering or wanting more is a great way to promote that alluring mystique.
