As part of his research, Sorkin set up a Facebook page to reach out to folks gathering some of their thoughts and experiences on Facebook. You know, I had to put my two cents in and I encourage you to do the same; let him know how you use Facebook personally and for business.
Frankly, I think it says so much about social media and online communities that we can share in his research and writing this way. Another wall is being knocked down in the path to story-telling. This time instead of the traditional vs. citizen journalist, it's between the filmmakers and audience. Either way, he's bringing us into his process for making this movie and isn't that what social media is all about?
Sorkin wrote in his introduction on the group page: "I've just agreed to write a movie for Sony and producer Scott Rudin about how Facebook was invented. I figured a good first step in my preparation would be finding out what Facebook is, so I've started this page."
According to Oliver Luft of The Guardian, the film is likely to follow Facebook's creation in 2004 by Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg in his university dorm and how the social network quickly became an internet, business and social phenomenon with more than 100 million users worldwide.
On his project page, Sorkin answers questions from Facebook users. When asked for details about the film, he said: "I honestly don't know how I'm going to write the movie yet."Personally, I can't wait to see his witty film-noir-like banter attributed to the Facebook story and I hope that Twitter will be next on his list!
