Google has launched its annual listing of essential Halloween search trends to help ensure you stay on theme - and maybe so you don't go dressed as the same character as everyone else.

Called 'Frightgeist', Google has a dedicated website for the task, which highlights trending Halloween searches in real time. So if you want to boost the appeal of your Halloween window display, or get an understanding of key trends, you can check in at any time.
So what are the key trends of 2018?
According to Google search data, the most search for costume ideas thus far are:
- Fortnite
- Spiderman
- Unicorn
- Dinosaur
- Witch
- Harley Quinn
- Superhero
- Pirate
- Rabbit
- Princess
A fairly eclectic mix - though it is worth noting that Fortnite is the top trending costume search in 43 US states.

Expect much flossing on your doorstep as kids await your Halloween offerings.
Outside of Fortnite, the other trends are fairly generic - Spiderman has had something of a resurgence, due to the most recent movie incarnation and the latest video game. Margot Robbie's portrayal of Harley Quinn is also likely to blame for the character's popularity in search trends. Other than that, unicorns, dinosaurs, rabbits, all pretty commonplace.
If you're looking to get into the Halloween spirit with your marketing efforts, it's worth checking in on Google's 'Frightgeist' trends to see what's popular in order to maximize response. As you can see in the above screenshot, within the Frightgeist listings, you can get more granular data on each trend, including where it's most popular, which may also help with your efforts.
