One of the most revolutionary aspects of the emergence of social media is the ability for people to share, like and follow things they find online. This is equivalent to having a chat with friends and telling them about products, place and services you like.
Up until now Google has been a bit behind and had little success with Google Buzz, with Facebook dominating the social share arena. Google are looking to change this with the introduction of the +1 button.
In the future when you search and you are logged into your Google account this button shows up next to the results. Clicking this button will recommend this website to others searching using the similar keywords. What I find most interesting is the little tick box that let's you opt in to having the adverts you see in Google be tailored to you. It will be interesting to see how this impacts Google Adwords campaigns.
Top 4 Points About the Google +1 Button
1. You can choose to make your +1 public or private. However even if yours are private the +1 will still show up but no one will know that it is your recommendation.
2. You will be able to edit your +1 recommendations in your Google account. I have signed up for the experiment but haven't seen this in my profile yet.
3. Having +1 recommendations for your website will impact your visibility on search results for people logged into their Google account. The more +1 the higher your site will show up.
4. Google +1 is still in the experimental stage, if you are interested in getting involved sign up here http://www.google.com/experimental/index.html
