Do you browse through Pinterest on your desktop PC?
While the vast majority of the app's usage comes via mobile device, the newly listed company is looking to maximize its options by launching an integrated Windows 10 app, which adds Pinterest to your 'Start' menu options and facilitates more seamless browsing on PCs.
As explained by Pinterest:
"As we focus on developing ways to help Pinners find inspiration across all interests, locations and platforms, we knew we had to improve the experience for Windows. Accessing Pinterest from desktop requires using a browser, often times with numerous tabs opened, which can make for a burdensome experience. To create a more seamless experience, today we’re officially introducing the Windows app for Pinterest on Windows 10. With Pinterest readily accessible from the start menu & taskbar and deeper integration with Windows, Pinners can now browse with a more enhanced and engaging experience."
The tool will provide another way for users to browse the platform and search for relevant product matches, extending the utility of the app. And considering that Pinterest is now seeing the majority of its growth in markets outside the US - where, potentially, desktop usage is a more significant consideration - it makes sense for the platform to boost its functionality in this regard.
Indeed, according to Pinterest's first performance report, the platform is now up to 291 million monthly active users, with 206 million of them coming from outside the US. The platform saw 29% growth in these global markets for the most recent quarter, as opposed to 6% growth in America - so while it may seem like mobile should be the key focus, and a Windows integration is a little outdated, the focus is likely on markets beyond those we're immediately familiar with.
But it can obviously be useful for users in western regions also - as you can see in the shot above, the new app adds Pinterest into to your main menu options, making it easy to click in and check out the latest Pins.
