Or in plain English, make the deliverables of your consulting services the same as the payment you would be willing to receive.
Unless you are willing to accept Twitter followers and Facebook fans as payment for your hours of hard work, then don't make followers and fans the deliverables of your consulting practice.
You are probably only willing to accept money as payment, or maybe attention or brand equity. So, money, or maybe attention or brand equity should be what you are offering with your service.
If you are offering anything else as your main deliverable, don't expect to stay relevant in the long term when business stop talking about social media in terms of followers and fans, and start talking about social media in terms of cash flows and bottom lines.
Deliver dollars or equity, and you can expect to receive the same.
