In honor of Social Media Day, I decided to use Sysomos' social media analytics platform to examine the Twitter handles of various PR news outlets, wire services and industry organizations. I was particularly interested in looking at the relative authority and predominant location of each handles' followers.
Why, you ask?
Most social media monitoring and analytics tools are used for after-the-fact measurement purposes, but they can also be quite powerful in terms of helping inform an outreach and engagement strategy. Think about it from a news or message distribution point of view. Being able to target the Twitter users with the most authoritative followers and/or a large base of followers in a given region is invaluable.
Sysomos calculates Twitter 'authority' by looking at "the number of followers, following, updates, retweets and several similar measures..." and then ranks a handle on a scale of zero to 10 (with zero being least authoritative and a 10 a highly influential user).
So, without further delay, read on to see who has the most authoritative set of Twitter followers.
