X introduced an updated NFL Gametime activation designed to provide a centralized score tracking and discussion space for each game, and drive more community engagement during the upcoming season.
As shown in this image, X’s NFL Gametime display will include a real-time overview of key plays, alongside related posts about the game.
The display will also include separate feeds for stats, play-by-play descriptions and general game chat, in variance to the main top posts feed.
X has also launched an NFL Hub feed that fans can pin to their feed tabs as an alternative stream of NFL-related posts.
X said the new setup is “the most immersive live play-by-play experience ever,” with a range of visual improvements and refinements compared to its previous NFL Portal element.
Though it’s pretty much the same thing.
X’s NFL Portal, which launched in 2024, also had game feeds, stats and community discussions, making it easier to follow along with game-related chatter in the app. This updated format is a slight tweak on the design, but it’s the same approach, though X, as it usually does, is touting it as a revolution in engagement.
NFL is an important focus for the platform, while catering to sports coverage in general is critical to maintaining X activity and maximizing community interaction.
Sports is the app’s top discussion topic and around 40% of all sports-related posts on X are about the NFL, according to X’s usage reported data.
As such, it makes sense for X to implement improvements to its NFL coverage, though the app’s continued reframing of older or existing features as fresh, exciting updates is getting a little old.
