I'm a long-time-fan girl of this next interview subject. Be prepared to be blown away. On this interview, I speak to Sharon Feder. Sharon Feder is the Chief Digital Officer of Rachael Ray's parent company, Watch Entertainment. Before that she was the COO at Mashable, which she joined when there was only a handful of people. You'll hear her story, her love of journalism and how that led to where she is today. The insights are through the roof.

Key Answers
What goes into a successful digital launch?
"So much of it is understanding your audience or your consumer base and what it is they are looking for. Whether you're talking about the media industry or the manufacturing industry, you're really talking about catering to people and their needs. Are you creating something of value that appeals to the readership that consumes it, as well as the advertiser that essentially fund it? It's about articulating that value - do we have beautiful assets to tell our story and do we have a way to share them in an appropriate place and time?"
On social media, does the approach differ depending on what you are promoting?
"There are a couple of different things we think about:
-
There are different areas of our portfolio. The media areas may well have varying audiences and so one thing might resonate more with one audience than the other.
-
In terms of the assets themselves, we have to think about where it is that we are telling these stories. It may be that one area of the portfolio performs better on one social network than another and so we have to play to that distribution and make sure the assets we're creating are crafted for those networks in mind."
Key Soundbites
