Following up on my post from yesterday, it looks like Facebook may be raising the stakes on targeting the social graph sooner than expected.
AdAge.com ran a story today saying that select advertisers and agencies in New York received invites to a Nov. 6 Facebook function where the company will "unveil a new way of advertising online."
Meanwhile, the story also notes that Facebook last month trademarked the term "SocialAds" describing it as "advertising and information distribution services, namely, providing advertising space via the global computer network [and] promoting the goods and services of others over the internet."
Not a particularly revealing description; however, some industry analysts have speculated that Facebook's new online advertising offering will likely leverage demographic targeting, similar to what's already in place with Facebook Flyers.
Read/WriteWeb ran a post yesterday about how the Facebook Flyers system matches up against Google's AdSense and AdWord programs.
Search versus the social graph, if that's how it unfolds in November, could prove to be an interesting match-up.
