I was interviewed a few days ago based on the three posts I have done so far on the Obama campaign's use of web 2.0. The interterview was included in this story, Barack Obama: First CRM President? - CRM Buyer, written by Erika Morphy. I think she did an accurate job of capturing what I said and was pleased to see this. It has not always happened in the past. I especially liked her mention of putting tools into the hands of volunteers.
"What is unique is that he is giving his volunteers tools to use themselves," Ives said. According to Ives, talk on the campaign trail is that should Obama win the presidency he would continue to communicate with constituents through the Web."
This seems to be a theme of the campaign's use of technology and I have seen this language in their communications. A recent email suggested that I "head over to My.BarackObama.com where our growing set of tools puts the future of this campaign in your hands." Erika also quoted another source and said, "it would be difficult to match Obama's level of tech outreach, David E. Johnson, CEO of the political consultancy Strategic Vision, told CRM Buyer."
However wins the election, I hope that use of the new participatory web will be part of his or her agenda for increased participation in government.
