Starting yesterday at noon EST, Yahoo! listed more than 100 domain names for auction at Sedo. They made the announcement on their Tumblr blog yesterday.
I didn't know Yahoo! was in the domain name business. Did you?
Some of these domain names are actually pretty valuable and whoever ends up with them will have great keyword-based domain names that should do well in the search engines for years to come. For instance, what do you think of these names?
- knowreflexology.com
- postajob.com
- knowconstructionlaw.com (there are a bunch of these know... domain names on the list, including some that are geographically targeted, such as knowchicago.com and knowqatar.com)
- transmissions.com
- webphones.com
And plenty more.
This could be an opportunity for several people with money in their pockets and the ability to put together a viable business plan around these domain names to walk in and get a good deal. Reserve prices range from $100 on the low end to $1.5 million on the high end for av.com.
The auctions end on November 21, so you still have time to bid. Now is the time you want to put the domain name of your choice on your watch list. If you think you can win it, place a bid.
Whoever ends up with the domain names is going to need a web designer and an online marketing strategy. You should probably have your idea in place before you place your bid, and know your exit strategy.
