I realize some of the world's population has chosen not to participate in Social Media. I never could quite understand why one would (voluntarily) inflict such pain on oneself, until now! Could devout religious beliefs play a role in the lack of participation in Social Media for some? Will Social Media usage skyrocket after the Conservative Clergymen gives his blessing? Doubtful, but just in case you weren't using Social Media in fear of breaking the "Moral Code," fear no more! The Omnipotent Patriarch, Pope Benedict XVI, "thumbed-up" Social Media yesterday stating,
Attention should be paid to the various types of websites, applications and social networks which can help people today to find time for reflection and authentic questioning," ~ Courtesy of the Guardian online
*I mean, obviously I take time to reflect on heartbroken Demi Moore's mental status in rehab, among other things.*
The Pontiff went on to say that Social Media is, "the starting point of communication for many people who are seeking advice, ideas, information and answers." Could this be one of the first topics for which both the Pope and I share respect? Gasp! It's hard not to notice that The Catholic Church has been making some serious efforts to keep up with the Digital Age. Last June Benedict tweeted using an iPad to announce the Vatican's new Breaking News Service AND something I know everyone already has on their iPhones--- an app that lets "believers" keep track of their sins on their mobile device.
Like Pope Benedict XVI said throughout the Catholic Church's preparation for the 46th World Day of Social Communications in May of 2012, Social Media is connecting people in extraordinary ways all over the world through the interwebs. It's spreading the word about religion, social causes (like the petition I'm promoting now for Lyme Disease: http://www.lymedisease.org/petitionscript/index.php), news, people, social change, politics, necessary political change, etc.
The capabilities within the structure of Twitter, specifically HashTags, make it easy to spread the word of your campaign, news story, or even just a sarcastic remark about your shoes (#fashionista).
Utilizing the HashTag (#) is one of the most effective ways of having your message "heard" by the Twitterverse. Below, I have included my favorite popular 10 Commandments, I mean HashTags, on Twitter.
1) #winning (obviously!!!)
2) #FF, or #FollowFriday
3) #NP, or #NowPlaying
4) #jobs (not to be confused with Steve Jobs)
5) #Tech, or #Technology
6) #Apple (consider: #iPhone, #iPad)
Key Take Away
To me, Social Media usage is a religious experience-- sort of. Whether or not the Pope agrees with me, we both believe on one thing for sure, Social Media rocks! Follow me on MY Twitter account--- @trishbaden
