Inspiring people to share content on Facebook is both an art and a science. For the science, blogger Dan Zarella examined more than 1.3 million Facebook posts and studied the characteristics that correlated with Likes, Comments and Shares on Facebook. He found that posts with photos tend to inspire the most Likes/Comments/Shares while posts that where either very short or very long tended to get lots of Likes but were not shared very much. Longer posts tended to be shared more than short ones. And not surprisingly posts with negative or positive sentiment got more engagement than neutral ones, according to Zarella's research.
But virality isn't just a science. It's also an art. The nature of your business Page, and your community also determines which of your posts get shared. ShortStack created this infographic, with social media guru Mari Smith, that breaks down best practices according to what we've learned from our users.
