I interviewed Brian Solis yesterday about his book (co-written with Geoffrey Livingston) Now is Gone: A Social Media Primer for Executives and Entrepreneurs. It is truly that: a primer and valuable for it, but chock full of notes, and additional resources. The podcast is available now for download on the box.net on the right of your screen.
I focused my questions on his belief that the keys to understanding social media lie in sociology, more than technology, and more, that you can go back into cultural anthropology to understand the nuances of creating community. Brian hinted that his next book will be all about that.
His support of the social media press release, which enjoys a whole chapter in the book, has caused some stir here and elsewhere, but Brian is aware that the smpr is a moving target, always evolving and finding value. Let's face it: if someone didn't try to prompt conversation, however self-serving, a lot of us might elect to stay bundled up on the couch just im'ing each other.
