Over the last few weeks, I've seen increased activity on LinkedIn with more people connecting with me.
One connection that was particularly special was the LinkedIn message I received from my cousin's son. You see I had lost contact with my family in India after my father died but eventually connected with them back in the 1990's.
Since then we have had the opportunity to meet with my cousin and his wife twice (both matures). His son who is a Boomer is active on social networks such as LinkedIn and often emails me photo's of him and his family.
His most recent correspondence was to let me know that he would be coming to England with his wife (a Gen X) and daughter (a Gen Z). We then went on to arrange all the details of his visit through LinkedIn and I flew over to the UK with my husband and three little ones for a family reunion.
The connection of business and personal life and the merging of them through social networking was fantastic.
In fact you can see here a photo of two of my children (the two on the left), my cousin's grand daughter (she is at the PC) and her maternal cousin's (yes this is getting complicated) all playing on the social networking site for little ones - Club Penguin. So now they can keep in contact and further develop their new friendships online through social networking - three of them in Ireland, two of them in the UK and one in India.
You can listen to me talking to Heather and Anna about social media in India and social networking in India in a recent Podcast Sisters podcast - Heather also shares her experience of visiting India where she was speaking at a recent conference.
