Alternatively you may have been asked: "Do you know anyone who has" a job on offer, an apartment or room for rent, a sofa, etc? (You get the point.) With the evolution of social media, our "friend" network has expanded exponentially across the globe. People gravitate toward who and what they know so we turn to our trusted friends when we need things.
By tapping into his friend network on Facebook, New York based Lawrence Lewitinn started a group called "Lawrence's List", connecting his friends and their friends allowing them to share jobs postings, apartments or rooms for let. With a network of over 1200 people included in this group, the next step was to create its own social network, and on May 21st, 2011 Socialisting was born.
Socialisting is exactly what it sounds like. Listings made by those people in your social network. You won't see listings from people you don't know. The site is easy to use; all you have to do is connect through Facebook and start adding friends from your network. The more friends from your network who sign up, the more listings you'll see.
Since it's launch nearly two weeks ago, the user-base has grown to over 1,000 people from over 52 countries, even with very little online PR. From apartment swaps from New York to Madrid or the sofa Matt Bellamy from Muse slept on to PR company job listings, if you need a job, apartment, sofa or have a job, apartment, sofa up for grabs, Socialisting would be the place to find it. They will even be adding a new category for pets. "Pets really are best given to people you know and trust, which is the whole idea behind Socialisting," said founder Lawrence Lewitinn.
While there are a lot of boutique social sites popping up around the web via social media agencies, Socialisting focuses on what social networks were based on - people you know. The next time you, or someone you know, are looking for a job or an apartment or cool stuff, your friends on Socialisting might just have what you need.
