T-Mobile has announced, albeit in a pretty vague manner, that they will be introducing more G phones in the "coming weeks and months". With that kind of clarity on delivery dates I am sure that most folks will be holding off on their iPhone and BlackBerry purchases for sure.
T-Mobile is indeed motivated to get these Google Android devices on the market because they still lag behind other carriers in adding new customers. The company added 621,000 new subscribers which was down a bit from the prior quarter of 691,000 and pretty far off the same period numbers from 2007 which were 951,000.
I guess the question is did T-Mobile actually put themselves at a disadvantage by being the first and only provider on a roll out of a new product? The early adopters will gobble up the latest, greatest and coolest technology but that's not enough to sustain the business that T-Mobile needs. They had 2008 as being the only provider of the Google Android smartphone, G1, but this year is going to be chock full of competitors. A pretty strong lineup of carriers and device manufacturers are planning on releasing their own Android devices in 2009 including Motorola, Sony Ericson, Garmin and Sprint. Oh and throw in this little problem that we are having with the economy and it's much less a slam dunk that people will rush to buy anything let alone something that is still a relative unknown quantity.
I suspect we have a lot of iPhone users reading this. I personally use the BlackBerry Storm (with occasional bouts of 'app envy' but I still like it). So what about these Android devices? Are you ready to move over to another provider etc to get one? Do you have any plans to further commit your life to Google? Let us know.
