WhatsApp has added a new option that enables users to easily invite people into their chats, even if those people don’t have a WhatsApp account.
WhatsApp’s new guest calling feature enables outside users to join encrypted WhatsApp calls via a guest link.

As shown in this image, WhatsApp users will now be able to send these custom chat links to anyone who wants to dial in.
However, guest users, meaning people without a WhatsApp account, will be limited in their usage options.
As explained by WhatsApp: “Anyone joining as a guest always needs the call host’s approval. Guests will enter a waiting room until the host lets them in, and guests can be removed from the call at any time. Guests can't see other participants’ phone numbers, send messages, or add anyone else directly to the call.”
The update will make it easier to conduct group chats in the app, with hosts able to send out a single connection link to all participants.
“Guests can open the link in their computer browser, type in their name, and join 1:1 and group calls with up to 32 people once admitted by the host,” WhatsApp said. “Only people with a WhatsApp account can create a call link.”
It’s another way for WhatsApp to tap into group video calling and take on platforms such Zoom and Microsoft Teams, with an alternative connection option.
WhatsApp has been gaining traction in the U.S. of late, with more people turning to the app for secure connection and privacy.
These new group options, then, could prove popular, tapping into a platform that more people are already using for personal chats.
In addition, WhatsApp is looking to roll out calendar integrations so users can create a WhatsApp call from a Google or Outlook calendar.
