When you visit some websites, do you notice that some use pop-up adverts that open up either when you enter the site or when you are about to leave (called pop-unders), often asking if you would like to subscribe to their newsletter or perhaps promote an aspect of their business?
Well if you're like me you will click quickly to close the screen - though I do know from research that if well executed they can deliver results.
Today I saw a YouTube video connected to a pop-up window. It was for the Onrec.com 2008 Global Online Recruitment Conference.
It's the first time I've seen social media being integrated into a popup window as part of an online marketing programme.
What did stop to make me watch the advert was the fact that the window clearly stated:
Onrec Expo Promotional Video - 9/10 September 2008
The video itself did not entice me to attend the expo as I don't think the message was compelling enough nor the execution a great quality. But that aside, I think the idea is worth exploring if you use pop-up windows on your site and you will certainly be able to track the results.
What do you think?
And here is a copy of the video - see for yourself if you think it would encourage you to attend the Onrec 2008 Global Online Recruitment Conference.
What recommendations would you make to Onrec to make this a more engaging video that might impact people's decisions to attend the conference?
