Why do we insist on pretending we are Superman?
We are human. We are certainly not perfect. We make mistakes.
But too many people in business and sales like to pretend they are Superman or Wonder Woman. And that's a damn shame, because it is an exhausting way to live life... And makes you a less effective salesperson.
You will fail. A lot. And that's ok. That's how you ultimately succeed. You cannot be afraid to try new approaches to things.
You don't know everything. Don't be afraid to admit that. People will help you, and you will seem more approachable.
You need to learn more stuff. Find the content and learn the stuff. Trust me, it is out there. And seeking to learn will be viewed favorably by your customers and prospects.
You don't have all the answers. Get out there and find the answers. Or create new answers, seek new solutions. This is how innovation begins.
You will make a lot of mistakes. Admit them, and learn from them. Sorry Charlie, this is just the way things are...
You will need a lot of help. Ask for it. It makes you better, and your customer too...
You will make someone mad as hell. And there is nothing you can do about it, other than to move on and recognize you can't please everyone. Trying to please everyone will result in a very unhappy business career.
Your art won't be viewed as art by everyone. But your work will matter to enough people. And that's all that counts...
You are you, so go with that. Because if you aren't authentic, you will look like a fool. Eventually...
You aren't Superman. So don't build yourself up that way. Because when I confirm that you aren't, you've lost me...
Pretending you are perfect will result in a very frustrating and lonely business and sales career.
But continuously striving to improve, learn, seek answers, find solutions and being humble...and your market will think you are, well, Superman.
What do you think?
