Once you have published your post you may be at a loss as to what to do next. There are several things you can both do with each blog post as well as things you may do to promote it or even help give it a boost in the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) department. Here are seventeen ideas you may apply to your blog posts.
1 - Post questions on your social media profiles that are answered by your blog post
This is a simple trick that is not going to require you to do any essay writing marketing via your social media profiles. You post a question on your social media profile and when a discussion starts you simply lead people to read your blog post for your take on the subject.
2 - Keyword optimize your content by substituting repetitive words with synonyms
There may be clear keywords within your text that are mentioned just a little too much. In line with demonstrating a broad vocabulary and staying away from being repetitive, you should replace a few of those keywords with suitably search engine friendly synonyms.
3 - Syndicate on your RSS feed
As a blogger, you should be up to date with your RSS feed and should have been syndicating your posts since day one. People are going to rely on their RSS feed to find out when you post comes out, which means missing out on this opportunity is like turning away free traffic.
4 - Bookmark your post on Digg, StumbleUpon and Delicious
This is just a nice way of drawing a little bit of extra traffic. It may not bring you much but the longer-term effect may be that you get more traffic.
5 - Link out to people or websites that you mentioned in your blog
This is an old method for getting people to backlink to you. It often happens if you link to websites and blogs that are not mainstream or owned by a business.
6 - Run a social media competition where the answer is in your blog post
If you want people to engage with your blog posts then run small competitions on social media where readers may find the answer within your blog posts.
7 - Add optimized images that will draw traffic from Google images
Google images is a search engine especially for images and it is able to send free traffic to your website organically if your images are optimized to work well (and be indexed) by Google images.
8 - Publish your post as an audio file and share on social media networks
There are too few people who launch their blog posts as audio posts too, but doing so means that people may listen to your blog whist jogging and it even gives blind people a chance to hear what you have to say.
9 - Add in a preview of coming titles in the footer
This is a good idea if you do have a lot of blog posts in the works and want to show people what to look forwards to.
10 - Curate sections of your work to place on social media as a preview
You can post entire blog posts onto your social media profiles if you want but it is often better to cherry pick the best bits of some posts and put them on your social media profiles.
11 - Request feedback on your blog or the issues raised
You can outright ask people to comment on your blog post by asking for feedback on the issues that you raised.
12 - Collect together your blog posts and compile into a PDF for distribution
This is an old trick that some used to employ to make money from their blog by simply selling it off as a PDF version. You can try this or you can give it away free so that people may read your blog posts on their e-reader.
13 - Add an extra bit to each author bio to explain your process for this post
At the bottom of each post you may have your author bio, but for each post you may add something a little extra such as how you found the information for that particular post or what the subject matter means to you.
14 - Post an obvious but funny lie at the end of each blog post
The "Onion" is the best at doing this. At the end of some news reports they will give you a headline from their coming show and it is often something that is deliciously enticing whilst also being a complete lie, such as "Next week the story of the woman who swallowed a quarter and fell in love with a slot machine." You can do the same with your blog post at the very end as it finishes your blog post on a high note even if your post was slightly melancholy.
15 - Host a poll and promise the results next week.
This is a nice way to engage your reader--especially if you make the poll easy to enter. The fact you will show the results next week gives participants more of an incentive to return.
16 - Saturate all your social media profiles with news of your blog post
You may do a blanket social media network post where you post details and links to your blog post on all of your social media profiles at the same time.
17 - Embed a new link to your email account
Now that your blog post has been published, you should be passively promoting it via your email account. Every week you should change your email embed to feature your newest blog post link.
