Baratunde Thurston talked about his experiences as the director of digital at The Onion. Baratunde is credited with pushing The Onion's social media presence, using his sarcasm and wit to gain the publication more than 5 million followers on Twitter.
He founded Cultivated Wit two years ago to bridge technology, digital storytelling, and humor to create communities and make the world a more fun place. During his presentation, Baratunde emphasized the importance for companies to match their brand and their mission to their digital stories. If stories come off as inauthentic or tone deaf, consumers will revolt.
