I recently heard from Jive Software about a survey. Jive provides an Enterprise 2.0 Collaborative Platform that I have written about on this blog. They recently (working with eRewards) did a quick survey of roughly 300 technology-company employees on their views on collaboration. Here are the Jive Survey Quick Hits:
Roughly two-thirds (63 percent) of the people surveyed have access to some type of collaboration software. 78 percent use it at least weekly, with half using it on a daily basis. Wikis are the most commonly used Enterprise 2.0 collaboration tool. 98 percent of respondents know what a blog is, while 63 percent know what a wiki is.
When asked to select the qualities of collaboration software that were most important to them, 87 percent of survey respondents stated it is important or very important that their collaboration software contain relevant and up-to-date information and 86 percent stated it is important or very important that the software is easy to use and navigate. The most popular use of collaboration software is communicating with co-workers, with keeping track of current projects or files coming in a close second.
Of the third of respondents that do not currently have collaboration software, 48% of those director-level and above hope that their company will purchase this software in the next year. There were several reasons given for not using available collaboration software. These included the observation that it is not being broadly used within the company and the feeling that the company's system lacks updated information.
This roughly corresponds with other surveys I have seen and with perhaps a higher reported knowledge of blogs and wikis.
