It's the websites that are consistently updated with fresh new content (read: blogs) that have a leg up on a websites that have been neglected.

Many of your best customers come through word of mouth, right? The last thing you want to happen is for a referral to check out your website then decide not to contact you. This happens when your value is not clearly conveyed.
