A company callled Skyonic, founded in 2004, has developed a way to mineralize CO2 emissions as carbonate compounds, such as baking soda! Their process captures and sequesters carbon and then mineralizes it as well as heavy metals. Their technology can be retrofitted to existing facilities or designed into new ones.
The process converts 90 percent of carbon dioxide from smoke stacks into baking soda. The energy to make this conversion uses waste heat, making it an interesting green operation. It also removes 97 percent of heavy metals, sulfur and nitrogen compounds, making the baking soda cleaner than food grade baking soda.
I'm no expert but this certainly seems to hold promise.
