Last month I came across Hudson Barton's blog post regarding a new hack he has been playing around with uniting Skype Chats and the web. He calls it Chat Publisher.
Being a moderator for a number of online Skype chat communities, I was intrigued with the idea of somehow displaying the chats on the web as an archive. While this wasn't appreciated by ALL the participants in the group, I made it clear a PUBLIC Skype chat with a PUBLIC URL which allows ANYONE to enter or leave at any time is NOT a private chat.
I've been really pleased with how things have progressed for two of my chat groups - pacificIT Chat and Tech Talk Japan. The amount of conversation is just enough to allow Hudson the ability to see how the interface works and we regularly connect to discuss the successes and shortcomings of the system.
With the looming talk of Google buying out Skype, I think there's a lot of potential with this system.
Contact Hudson if you'd like something similar set up for your Skype chat.
