There has been a lot of coverage lately concerning Facebook and the issue of privacy. I agree they shouldn't be giving out information without our permission. But anyone who is expecting total privacy in the 21st century is being naive.
Even if Facebook and other social media had never been created it wouldn't matter. One of the biggest contributors to our loss of privacy began with search engines.
Before social media I was able to find out all kinds of information on people and other subjects just by using search. Information is constantly being added online from sources you don't even realize for anyone to easily access.
I work in sales and marketing and part of my job is to source information. I can find details about who works at different companies, articles they were quoted in, events they attended and their contact information on Google.
Social media took us to the next level of sharing. It gave us the ability control what is posted and allows us to share our own information with friends and family. The problem is that once this information is put on the internet it is out there for people to find.
You might be able to stop Facebook from sharing but you can't control and hide from other sources who want to find you.
