'Uberceo' has done a survey of Fortune 100 companies to find out how many CEO's have social media profiles. The results? Not a huge surprise:
Only two have Twitter accounts
Only 13 have LinkedIn profiles (that is more of a surprise given that LinkedIn is the business social network)
81% don't have a Facebook page
Not one has a blog
I am guessing that the majority of these CEOs are over 50 and so won't be naturally comfortable with social networks...though having said that the fastest growing group on Facebook is of course older users. As a whole though, it shows the relatively low importance social media still has in a lot of organisations.
For example, Habitat has now apologised for spamming the Twitter community (see Digital Tip), admitting to turning its feed over to the Intern. Would anyone do that with official company statements?
