This week I moderated another Social Media Today webinar as part of their Best Thinker webinar series, this time on the topic of From Data to Direction: How to Convert Social Media Data Into Actionable Insights. This webinar was sponsored by Hootsuite and featured David Drodge (@WWF), Head of Digital at WWF International, Kareem Rahaman (@dynamyk) Senior Digital Communications Officer at Ryerson University and Ben Cockerell (@bpcockerell), Director of Marketing at UberVU. We discussed how to use social data for a variety of use cases within marketing and even in other internal teams.
Here are 3 key take-aways:
- It's not enough to be a social marketing team anymore - you need to be a fully social organization. Opportunities and use cases exist for almost every business function to use and benefit from social data in Customer Services, Finance, Recruiting, HR, Product Development, and many more - help them become socially focused as well!
- One tweet can change the world - David and his team discovered a tweet in need of a Panda Bear and his team from WWF International were able to respond in minutes brokering a partnership between WWF and six months later WWF's logo was on the cycling team's jersey!
- Tagging helps Ryerson justify all activities they do - both for in person and online events. Determining ROI using social media can be hard but not if your are organized to report back the all activities that happened in social - by using tags Ryerson found a way to report ROI.
