The roll-out of interesting and practical Twitter applications continues!
Today, we welcome live streaming app twitcam.
This cool new Twitter app allows anyone with a computer, a webcam and Twitter account to stage a global interactive forum or seminar from the comfort of their office or bedroom.
I checked out social media guru Darren Rowse (aka @problogger) this afternoon as he tested twitcam live from his home office. It was a free two-hour Q&A session with one of the best blogging brains going, so content was top-notch.
Below is the recorded livestream of @problogger in action - or you can click here for the actual (archived) page and you see how it works, including the tweet chat section that allows tweeps to participate by making comments or asking questions in real time.
It's a little raw and clunky (some might prefer it that way) and it took a little while for Darren to get warmed up and into the session (I recommend you fast forward), but it definitely gives you a fantastic glimpse of what's to come in terms of Twitter and live streaming.
One drawback with the system is that when you tweet a question (once you've logged in with your Twitter account name), it comes up live and publicly on Twitter. On the flipside, these public tweets promote the twitcam session and instantly create a buzz. Numbers of participants in Darren's session increased as word got around Twitter that it was on.
Will live stream apps such as twitcam take off in a big way? Who knows, but it's a handy tool that even at this early stage presents a lot of opportunities for brands, entrepreneurs and communicators.
