Recently, I finished up the 21 Days to a More Engaging Facebook Presence series and I learned something very valuable that I might not have ever learned otherwise.
Anything worth doing is friggin hard.
Tony Hawk does a 900 and it looks easy. But how many bones do you think he broke before doing something so complicated with such finesse?
Real work, the work worth doing, takes research, takes time, and yes maybe even a few broken bones.
The reason for the 21 Days Series
My business, like any other business was getting stale. I felt like I was publishing the same things, talking to the same people, and not growing or doing anything new.
In order to raise the bar, I had to over commit to something.
Provide killer free content that would rival any paid course and do a fully produced video every day for 21 Days.
Sure, there were a million legitimate reasons it wouldn't work out. I have full time clients, coaching students, collaborative projects, a house being built, a 9 month old baby, and a wedding in just over a month.
But here's what I learned: You'll never learn how much you can do, or exactly what you're capable of, until you push yourself to the limit.
Is this you?
Have you been doing the same thing day in and day out? Do you feel bored?
Why are you holding yourself back?
Honestly.
The world is too big, and life is too short to not do everything you are fully capable of. Making your mark isn't hard. You just have to do it.
And if nobody sees it, do it again.
And again. And again.
Look, I know it's easy to listen to what's going on in the echo chamber.
I get that following "13 tips" posts sounds much more appealing than actually doing the research yourself.
But guess what? Those "tips" came from someone else, who did their own research, (maybe) with their own audiences, and their own perspective.
They're not you. And you're not them.
Don't use someone else's tips, someone else's research, and someone else's voice and expect to get someone else's results.
You have to push yourself.
If you want to stand out, there's no way around it.
Quit looking for dime-store tactics and actually research who it is you're talking to.
Define a mission.
Develop your voice.
What are you so passionate about, that you are irresistable to anyone who meets you?
Then, and only then are you able to grow your business in a way that has more meaning than how much money is in the bank account.
And then, and only then are you able to feel like you're living a life of meaning.
