This week has marked more than a change from September to October, with weather events solidifying beyond the shadow of a doubt that summer is no more. Changes of CEOs, changes of season, and a change of a show host have taken over our social media minds.
Let's see how the social intelligence insights breakdown some of the top news stories on social this week.
Trevor Noah Takes the Helm of The Daily Show
The Trevor Noah era of The Daily Show accumulated over 95K Twitter mentions between September 28 and 29.
The sentiment around the premiere episode was extremely positive. As Brandwatch sentiment-categorized tweets show that 93% of tweets were positive.
In fact, at no time during the show did the sentiment dip below 75% positive within sentiment-categorized tweets.
It is extremely rare to have such dominating positive sentiment, especially when you consider how liked and respected the former host, Jon Stewart, is.
Noah, a native South African, made this conversation more global as the country of South Africa was the second leading contributor to this conversation with 11% of tweets, trailing only the US who accounted for 66%.
In fact, Noah's nationality was used as a prideful rallying-cry as #ProudlySouthAfrican garnered nearly 7.7 million impressions.
Ralph Lauren Loses Its CEO...Ralph Lauren
Fashion has enjoyed its time in the Twitter spotlight as fashion week's have taken place all over the world, but earlier this week the Fashion industry was rocked by an announcement coming from Ralph Lauren.
Their CEO, and namesake, will be stepping down. This announcement took Twitter by storm and racked up more than 40K mentions.
The sentiment around this conversation was more positive (66%) than negative (33%) as shoppers and fans of the brand took to Twitter to thank Lauren, and wish his successor luck.
In fact, when you examine major themes within this conversation, the incoming CEO, Stefan Larsson, has his fair share of mentions.

Speaking of CEOs, The Whispers of Jack Dorsey and Twitter Grow Louder
Twitter has been searching for a new, permanent CEO ever since Dick Costolo stepped-down. Its current, interim CEO, Jack Dorsey, has long been a favorite by many to take the role.
This week there was an informal announcement of a possible upcoming formal announcement that Jack Dorsey may be appointed permanently to the position of Twitter CEO. That last sentence wasn't confusing at all.
Anyway, the possibility of the pending announcement was enough to garner over 12K mentions on the platform that is looking for a new CEO - Twitter.
Twitter insights are in order.
The hashtag #JackDorsey led all others in terms of accumulated impressions as it accrued more than 7 million. The hashtag #Twitter was second with over 4 million impressions.
While we wait for a formal announcement, we can only predict that it would bolster this conversation and lead to much larger volumes of mentions and impressions.
The Internet Had a Good Run, but #Peeple is "Yelp for People" So It Must Be Destroyed
C'mon Peeple! Men and women were seemingly equally outraged about the new app, Peeple. The new app described as Yelp for individuals, spawned its very own hashtag that accumulated over 75K Twitter mentions. This conversation is quite even across gender as men ever-so-narrowly edge women with 52% of unique authorship within this conversation.
How do we know they are outraged, you ask? Well, the conversation sentiment is over 66% negative within sentiment-categorized mentions.
This app led to the creation of parody, Twitter accounts that produced some of the conversation's most popular tweets.
Celebrities, also, lended their thoughts to their large follower-bases that appear to resonate strongly within this conversation.
October Is #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth
October means many things, but none are more important than Breast Cancer Awareness Month. As the month commenced yesterday, the hashtag #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth was used around 54K times on Twitter or Instagram.
This hashtag was huge as it made its rounds all over Twitter. The hashtag accumulated more than 305 million impressions.
In a statement of solidarity, many shared that they are wearing pink in support of Breast Cancer awareness and research.
This conversation is being largely driven by women, as they hold a 65% stake within unique Twitter authors.
Hurricane Johnny Cash Is Coming
Rather the hurricane shares the same name as an actor who played Johnny Cash once. In a movie. This joke awful.
Hurricane Joaquin is heading for the US, and has accumulated over 185K mentions on Twitter.
It is clearly a concern as many of the eastern coastal states have bolstered mentions of the storm.
The hashtag #Joaquin has garnered over 1 billion impressions, and #HurricaneJoaquin has accumulated nearly 350 million impressions.
As the storm makes landfall and moves up the coast, we expect this conversation to grow as people share news and updates.
