Last week, BusinessWeek's Rob Hoff wrote a short but interesting post about major enhancements coming to LinkedIn. Arguably the most interesting take-aways came from reader responses. "James" wrote, "Sites such as Facebook, MySpace, Linkedin and others are pointless!" Messels writes, "SNS are totally pointless. they do NOTHING." This sort of reminds me how at parties I'll loudly proclaim, "This Web thing. It'll never make it!" P.S. I'm not invited to that many parties.
But seriously, lest we in tech land think everyone loves blogs and social networking, that would be a "no." I'm clearly a fan but like all other new phenoms, big-time consolidation is around the corner. Case in point, when I invited the head of a major Bay Area PR firm to join Visible Path several weeks ago, his response was, "I'm a member of LinkedIn and Facebook already, why do I need yet another network?" And lately, as the winds of the people search site Spock.com have been blowing against my window pane, I'm beginning to wonder the same thing.
