I work in a Norwegian PR-firm in Oslo. We have recently taken the position: "PR in social media". Corporations, media and leading PR-firms in Norway are curious about our social media strategy and the need for information is massive. Norwegian PR-practitioners have not yet the knowledge to run PR-campaigns in social media, or make public "expertise" comments to journalists and media. Especially Facebook and Youtube makes daily headlines in Norwegian newspapers. Approximately 950.000 "Vikings" have joined the Facebook-wave, and Norway's population consists of 4.7 million people. That makes Norway one of the largest European network on Facebook!
Three weeks ago I attended The Norwegian PR- award, and several senior practitioners in leading Norwegian PR-firms asked me: What is social media? Corporations request social media strategies and PR-firms still struggle with words like: Web 2.0, buzz and viral marketing. PR-firms can see the potential, but not define the direction.
Colt Kommunikasjon (name of our PR-firm) have found inspiration and literature from US and UK, sadly because it does not exist Norwegian literature on this subject. We can help clients to communicate in social media and create buzz around their products. However, we are open for input and advice how to embrace this social media phenomenon.
I apologize for my poor English grammar and language.
