We could be very close to seeing Meta’s next-level smart glasses in retail stores, with reports emerging that Meta’s planning to launch its “Hypernova” camera-equipped glasses at its Connect conference next month, which will also include a new heads-up camera display that’s visible in the wearer’s field of view.
Various reports have suggested that Meta’s Hypernova glasses, a sort of bridging device between its current smart glasses and full AR wearables, will provide a range of new functionalities, and will also include Meta’s revolutionary wrist-controlled UI, providing new capacity for the device.

To be clear, Meta itself hasn’t shared a heap of info on the project, but early images were reportedly uncovered last month, which provide more specific details about the heads-up display and wrist controls.
And now, industry analyst Mark Gurman has uncovered more information about the glasses, including their likely weight and price.
In his latest newsletter, Gurman says that the Hypernova glasses will weigh around 70 grams, 20 grams more than the current Meta Ray Ban glasses. Gurman also says that the Hypernova glasses will be priced at around $800, after Meta found ways to reduce the price from its initial $1000+ projections.
The launch of a new form of smart glasses could be a major step for Meta’s wearable ambitions, by enabling it to build on the popularity of its Ray Ban smart glasses, which have rapidly become the top-selling device of its type.
According to new insights from Counterpoint, Meta’s share of the global smart glasses market rose to 73% in H1 2025, making it the dominant player in the emerging space.

As per Counterpoint:
“Shipments of Ray-Ban Meta AI Glasses grew over 200% YoY, reflecting strong market demand and increased manufacturing capacity at Luxottica, Meta’s key production partner. According to our channel tracker, Luxottica’s own retail networks, including online and offline Ray-Ban stores, Sunglass Hut and LensCrafters, account for a significant portion of the product’s sales.”
Meta’s Ray Bans have been a hit, and the addition of new forms, which also include its recently released Oakley smart glasses, will help Meta to capitalize on this early traction, and establish itself as the key provider of smart glasses.
Which could be a key development for its eventual AR glasses launch, which is expected to come in 2027.
By that time, Meta’s likely to be well established as the industry standard for smart glasses, with the regular launch of updated models helping to build this reputation, and maintain consumer interest.
Of course, other players are also trying to get into AR glasses, including Apple and Snapchat, with Snap even looking to get to market ahead of Meta with its AR device.
But Meta’s making smart moves on this front, which will likely see it win out in the end.
Meta’s 2025 Connect conference will be held on September 17th.
