Everywhere you turn these days you will read or see people debating about the value of social media. They discuss how it's used, will it last and why do they need it.
Forget about all that. Let me share with you how social media is going to play a big part in some people's lives this holiday season. Social media is going to shame people into buying better gifts.
You might ask why I say that and here is my reason. In the past if you gave a gift, most times it was between you and the receiver. If the gift was bad they might tell some friends but most times it stayed between you and the person involved.
Now if you give a bad gift it has the very real potential to be posted on someone's social page for all their friends to see. It could be a Facebook status on what they got for the holiday or you could find your gift being tweeted about. Or think of the horrors of what can be done with a bad gift given the scope of YouTube.
Worse yet, if you re-gift something and it's posted than the original giver sees you gave it away. The implications can go on and on.
So my advice this year is to shop wisely. Remember it's not the thought that counts as much as it's making sure your gift doesn't wind up on some awful viral video.
Happy Holidays!
