In my opinion, I sometimes feel that people do not give home-based businesses the respect that they deserve. Some still subscribe to the viewpoint that you have not "made it" until you have moved out of the home. Do you remember the last time you saw a home-based business owner's profile plastered on the cover of a business magazine? I certainly cannot recall an instance which is why I wish there were more articles such as this one highlighting the achievements of home-based business owners. Those of us that have home-based businesses already know that we are more than capable of serving the needs of our clientele from the comfort of home.
I believe you work harder when you work from home. I often lose track of time because I become so engrossed in my work. I find working from home to be less distracting because you do not have to worry about coworkers stopping by your desk to chat or sitting in meaningless meetings. When you are in a comfortable environment (for many people this place would be home) and doing something that you are passionate about, you are prone to work longer. However, working from home enables you to choose when and how you spend your day because you have the power to structure your schedule. Oftentimes, working outside the home can be more of a headache because you have to worry about commuting, who will pick up the kids from daycare, etc. Again, I realize many people start businesses from their home, but I do not believe that saving money is the sole reason why many of these businesses remain home-based.
Do you feel that saving money and technological advances are the main reasons businesses that started at home continue to remain home-based once they experience growth?
