Facebook Pages have been out for several months now in an effort to create a better brand experience for both advertisers and users of this leading social network.
From Facebook:
Every Facebook Page is a unique experience where users can become more deeply connected with your business or brand. Users can express their support by adding themselves as a fan, writing on your Wall, uploading photos, and joining other fans in discussion groups. You can send updates to your fans regularly â€" or just with special news or offers. Add applications to your Page and engage your users with videos, reviews, flash content, and more.
A quick audit of the most popular Facebook Pages today turned up some interesting surprises:
- Barack Obama, with more than twice the fans than that of his closest runner up (in this case, The Chris Moyles Show), tops the list with nearly 786, 000 supporters.
- The BBC has earned two positions in the top ten with the mysterious "Stig" earning #4 and "Top Gear" earning tenth position.
- Only two branded products have made the top ten. Victoria's Secret PINK comes in at #3, and Ticketmaster United States cashes in at #6. There are some indications however, that Ticketmaster may have rocked the vote to claim this position.
It's hard to tell what's more striking: who's here or who isn't. The following chart shows top Facebook Pages ranked by category type. Universal rank is listed on the left.
