This story will not die, and here's the latest twist (as of this morning): the early data suggests that the new USA Today Web site is a flop with current readers. Don't know what to make of the data -- I don't think we should take it at face value (easy to corrupt, and even easier to make bad inferences) but I do believe that the general blogosphere may have misjudged this one. We keep forgetting we are but a small precinct in a very large world, and our ability to predict is very limited. In the meantime, I am siding with folks who wonder if USA Today might have done better to focus first on user experience, and then on social media. In fact, that ought to be a social rule.
