If you watched the #Oscars last night, then you know that Ellen DeGeneres decided to have a little fun with Twitter. By tweeting an impromptu selfie photo of her and a bunch of A-List stars (Jared Leto, Jennifer Lawrence, Channing Tatum, Meryl Streep Julia Roberts, Kevin Spacey, Brad Pitt, Lupita Nyongo, Angelina Jolie, Lupita's brother Peter, Bradley Cooper, and Ellen DeGeneres) and asking people to retweet it to see if it could get the most retweets ever, she SUCCEEDS! And breaks Twitter - temporarily. The system crashed momentarily. Even the Academy apologized for aiding in the outage. In our opinion, the best Twitter apology ever! Talk about star power and more importantly, how interactive television has become with social media. It really is giving advertisers incredible options for connecting with their audience.

Ellen achieves over 2M retweets and over 900K favorites and counting, beating out President Barack Obama's Twitter record. It had over 1M retweets in the first hour, according to Kevin Spacey. Even the Oscars gets in on the action, by apologizing for contributing to the Twitter outage.
Someone on the ground snapped this photo of them trying to assemble for the now famous celebrity selfie.
Shortly after, actor and two-time Oscar winner Kevin Spacey joins Jimmy Kimmel for his after the Oscars special and tries to do a selfie to beat Ellen's selfie. He doesn't manage to break her record, but he did manage to break his website after he told the world that anyone could go to his website kevinspacey.com and view a clip of when Jimmy Kimmel auditioned for the Tonight Show.
And you know what they say, if it didn't happen on Twitter, well, it didn't happen. #Oscars (click to retweet)
