Paul from All Groan Up wrote a post about overcoming being embarrassed.
I loved the post so much, I wanted to relate the lesson to social media.
There are a lot of times in social media that we might feel embarrassed to show our true selves or say something 'out of the norm', but the truth is, your audience wants to see the REAL YOU!
It's been talked about time and time again: show transparency and your audience will appreciate you more for it.
Social media is not about showing how corporate you are - it's about showing the people behind the business.
So how can you show your social audience the real you without compromising your professional image?
1. Give them a name. When posting a new Facebook status or even Twitter status, tell your audience WHO is talking. Social Media Examiner does a great job of this each and every time they post:
2. Speak your mind. Are you against something within your industry? Maybe you're all for something in your industry? Maybe you just feel like ranting about something related to your industry. Make it relevant to your industry and add in a bit of your own personal flavor. Pam Moore The Marketing Nut does a great job at this:
3. Relate to your audience. The best way to show that you're a real human being is to connect with them in simple, yet effective ways in which a lot of people can relate to. Erika from Redhead Writing does this extremely well:
The point is, no matter what industry you're in, your audience will respond 100% better to you and your brand if you show that you're taking them seriously by showing your true self instead of just the corporate image.
So, how will you show your audience the REAL you?
