Instagram is trying out a new look, with platform Chief Adam Mosseri sharing the first view of an updated logo.

Instagram’s new branding takes on a different style than the previous IG logo, offering a refreshed feel that could help to reinvigorate the app.
As explained by Mosseri: “We updated the Instagram wordmark today, which is more than a decade old and felt dated. We feel the refresh is sharper and more modern, but references the original and has the simplicity and craft that's always made it Instagram.”
Instagram also shared an overview of its updated “brand system”, which includes new fonts, icons and formats.

The updated text display has a freshness to it, and it was probably about time for IG to update its branding.
But of course, many people have complained about the change, with Mosseri’s announcement posts on both Instagram and Threads seeing more than 5,000 combined replies at the time of publishing.
Many criticized the font choice, noting that the “r” looks like a “z” due to the stylized presentation. Others used the comment section to gripe about common IG themes, saying they don’t care about updates of this type and that they just want to see posts from the profiles they follow, and the other way around.
Does a new logo presentation matter in the bigger scheme of things? For regular users, probably not. However, it could enhance appeal with certain audiences, and it could make the app feel refreshed via a simple presentation change.
The question then is whether Instagram may be on the brink of pushing some new update to align with this new display. Maybe IG is close to adding some big new changes to back up the branding. However, right now it seems that only the title at the top of the app will be getting an update.
