Love it or fear it, disruption has become the norm in the 21st-century market place. Large companies try to ride it out and catch up so they can remain relevant. Smaller ones try to create it and use it to their advantage to carve themselves a fresh niche in a crowded market place.
The questions that arise: can you plan for disruption? If so, how? And can you ride it out if it happens to you? Discussing it last week in the third Social Media Today #SMTPowerTalk were Eric Enge of Stone Temple Consulting and Rebekah Radice of Rebekah Radice LLC, who have both evolved their own survival strategies to deal with disruption.
Veterans of marketing, content creation and the online world, neither Eric nor Rebekah are strangers to disruption in their industry. What is new, however, is the fact that while each tackles this from a largely different perspective dictated by the needs of their respective customers and their own personal circumstances, their approaches bear marked similarities: they both keep it real, infuse themselves in the process and try to establish trust in order for professionalism and scaling to work.
The purpose of the Social Media Today SMT Power Talk series is not just to explore the obvious, but also to peel back the layers and look at some of the intrinsic differences in the world of marketing.
Is being a woman in this field a help or a hindrance? Does being a man give you an easier ride in terms of the time you have available to you to devote to all this? You have to watch the video replay to get to the answers. I promise, it's worth it:
