Did Hillary's lack of social media saavy lead to Obama's increased popularity? I refuse to call it death to her campaign until someone actually wins. I've already said that Obama's social media campaign is what won me over. I did pause over this statement Chris made:
In fact it has gotten to the point where the traditional approach just plain doesn't work anymore. Hillary Clinton's campaign is illustrating this for us in living color right now.
Chris is right. Traditional approach only just doesn't work. But why? Because people have become more and more disillusioned with traditional media. They trust their friends more than they do news makers. Places like Facebook, Myspace, Twitter are where more and more of my generation are turning for "trusted news".
I also appreciated Chris' analysis of Hillary and Obama's social media presence. It looks like both candidates need to focus more on their Twitter, Myspace and Facebook accounts to really give the impression that they are involved in the conversation, but Obama's blog keeps things going. I would love to see some podcasting or phone blogging updates.
While social media may not make or break a candidate, it does speak to Obama's image as a young, fresh, new candidate with new ideas.
