... at least in my little corner of the world in Silicon Valley it doesn't. I often get pinged by recruiters, headhunters and various friends of mine about open positions, jobs and consulting opportunities they are looking to fill. Usually, they ask me if I know someone who is looking for a new opportunity (which is also an indirect question for me too; but sorry, I am taken). It's not because I am special or anything like that; but I really do like to help people. In fact, that's one reason why I started Silicon Valley Tweetup; to connect people that share common interests. At the end of the day, this brings me joy.
And, I guess this makes sense, right? With reports and data like this, this, this and this; it's no wonder why so many companies/agencies are ramping up to hire good people; and believe me, I am a pretty good judge of character and I know a lot of really good people.
So, in the last few weeks, I have learned about some pretty amazing opportunities that I would like to share with those who read my blog. If you are interested or think you are qualified, please send me your resume. I either know the hiring manager or the recruiter and I will gladly send it along. Do not apply directly because it may never get in the right hands.
Chegg
The name will grow on you. It's actually a really cool site and they have an awesome business model. Think Netflix for textbooks. I remember in college, my biggest complaint was the cost of books each semester and then selling back to the school for pennies on the dollar. Chegg saves money for college students. They are looking for two people who are extremely proficient in product management and social media. Disclosure: my wife was recently hired and she is on the recruiting team for Chegg.
Sears
I used to go there as a kid and buy IOU and Generra sweaters. My grandfather used to buy his tools there as well. Sears is doing some awesome things in this space and is looking to hire a social media manager. Not sure where this person would have to report into. Email me for more info on this one.
SalesForce
If you are not sure about Salesforce, you can read up on them here. They are looking for someone to lead their social media initiatives. The exact title is Sr. Manager of Social Media; and this person would most likely work out of San Francisco.
Radian6
If you work in any capacity of social media, I am sure you have heard of or have used Radian6. It's social listening software with a multitude of very cool features. I know many people that work there and they are very awesome and forward thinking in this space. They have several positions open.
Outright
Outright is looking for a Social & Community Marketing Manager. I think this person would report to a very good friend of mine who I used to work with HP. Outright offers free business performance tracking and self employment tax preparation software and they are located here in San Jose.
Los Angeles Agency - I was told that I couldn't share the name quite yet.
This position seems like it would super fun for someone who wants to work on the agency side and support a car manufacturer (think German) and do some really cool things. They are hiring for the following positions:
- User Experience Director
- Digital Strategist Director
- Social Media Strategist
- SEO Analytics Director
Halogen Network
Halogen Network is a distributed media company that connects affluent consumers with the world's leading luxury brands. They have an alliance of world-class niche publishers that engage a vast array of audiences across a range of lifestyle verticals including Luxury Travel, Business & Influence, Food & Wine, and Design & Home. They are looking for a Dir/VP of Digital Engagement, product managers, sales and advertising support. Not quite social media but it is a job nonetheless.
Edelman Digital
Yes, I personally know the recruiter and maybe even the hiring manager depending on the position. I can honestly say that everyone I met with on the recruiting team and the hiring team define awesome; one reason why I am super excited to be starting at Edelman next week. There are positions open in Silicon Valley (San Mateo) and also San Francisco. Unfortunately, you wouldn't be working directly with me since I officially report into another office; but you will see my mug in the SF office every week.
I would also encourage you to go visit Amber Naslund's latest post where she listed many open positions in the social space. Amber has become a good friend to me and I am sure she wouldn't mind helping you if she can. I would also encourage you, if you are local in Silicon Valley, to attend our monthly tweetups. A lot of hiring managers and recruiters attend and are always looking to close their reqs.
Last Disclosure: I am not compensated in any way by referring candidates to any of the above positions. However, being an employee of Edelman, I believe that I do get a referral bonus if someone is hired that I refer. I can assure you that my intention is to help people and I am not doing this for any financial gain.
