Storytelling is one of the things that we enjoyed the most when we were children. Our favorite stories took us to different places, let us experience new things and taught us about the people and world outside of our own homes and towns. A lot of people today, even adults, are hungry for good stories. Stories of hope, success, kindness and doing the impossible are some of the most common topics of stories that go viral on social media. Facebook has become the prime platform for people to share their own stories, as well as to share stories from others, that they think their friends will be able to relate to, will find humorous or inspirational, or just provide a nice break from the day-to-day of life. So it makes sense that including storytelling as a larger part of your brand's online presence and messaging is a smart marketing strategy.
But how do you get started, especially if your brand doesn't necessarily lend itself to a specific story? Here are a few tips to help you out:
1. Make your story attractive.
Stories told in plain text status updates will not generate much, if any, attention. To give your story a chance, tell your story through images. Whether you include a photo that ties-in to your story in a meaningful way, or you tell the full story in an image or successive set of images, you'll generate much more interest by incorporating visually appealing media.
2. Use a catchy, viral-focused lead in.
If you're using Facebook to share a link to a story on your site, use natural human curiosity to your advantage. You've probably seen these posts countless times yourself, and chances are, you've clicked on many of them just because you HAVE to find out more. Duplicate those results for your self with a carefully crafted call to action. Things like "This woman was just walking down the street, but when she turned the corner? I couldn't believe what happened!" or "We thought a new logo was the way to go. You'll LOL when you see the options" will pique interest and get people clicking over to hear your story.
3. Get influencers sharing your story.
Leverage the built-in networks of some targeted influencers within your niche and reward them for sharing your content. Their shares will help you reach an entirely new audience and serve as a great way to drive new traffic to your story, and consequently, to your brand. This can definitely be a time-intensive and tricky process though, so we totally recommend AdvoWire to help you automate your content syndication on social media. Now, get out there and tell your story!
